Pebbly Perfection: Playa de La Granadella

Small but perfectly formed, Granadella nestles within the rocky coastline like a hidden Pirates Cove from days of yore. Known for being one of the Costa Blanca’s best beaches this place can be jam-packed in the Summer months, when it can only be reached via a Park & Ride service that runs every 30 minutes from La Guardia Park. In the quieter months locals and holidaymakers come here to relax and to snorkel through the cove’s crystal-clear waters.

Top Tips: Beat the crowds by arriving early in July and August! Beach shoes and deck-chairs or mats are a must (sunbeds available at a daily charge). It’s a long way down, so bring a packed lunch or pre-book a table at one of the 3 restaurants as you arrive (you’ll need cash at Restaurant Llebeig as they don’t accept cards).

Sea-caves & Turquoise Lagoons: Kayak & Canoe Hire

If the unknown beckons, hire a kayak or canoe from the main beachfront or from Granadella Cove and take to the water for a unique perspective of the areas rugged coastline, turquoise lagoons, and hidden beaches. For the more adventurous day tripper we recommend joining a group excursion to the Blue Lagoon and sea caves ‘Cueva del Llop Mari’ and ‘Cova Tallada’. The latter is a ‘Pirate worthy’ colossus of a sea-cave, and a sheer beauty to behold whether entering by boat or on foot.

Top Tip: New to Kayaking? We highly recommend booking a guided tour so that you can relax and focus on the important stuff, such as paddling and the scenery around you!

Flora & Fauna: El Parque Natural del Montgo

Get your heart rate up while ‘Insta-snapping’ the flora and fauna of Montgó and the natural park.

A lush haven to over 650 plant species and to birds of prey such as the Peregrine Falcon and Kestrel, Montgó is known to locals as ‘The Elephant’ due to its mammoth like side profile. Rising an impressive 753 meters above sea level, take your pick from several climbing routes (ranked from easy to difficult by them in the know) all culminating with 360 degrees of ‘Wow’ at the cross marked summit. Do like Bear Grylls and pack a bag with plenty of water, snacks, a first aid kit (one never knows) and of course a camera for proof of your climb!

JH Loves: The ‘Zen like’ feeling that washes over you as you reach the cross…simply sit, breath deep and drink in the heady views. Om!

El Parque Natural del Montgó, visit the www.denia.net website for route options and more info on exploring the natural park.
